For Dragons and a Whole Lot More: Twinkle

“I’m bored — what’s there to do?” says every kid at least once in the winter. Your answer? Twinkle, a 4,500-square-foot creative play wonderland in the heart of Williamsburg. This play space is loaded with nine exhibits designed for the under-six set, everything from the “Red Hot Fire Truck” (complete with hoses that spray real water) to “Graffiti Room” (a fully padded room for dancing and tumbling) to “How to Feed Your Dragon,” (which houses four colorful, 15-foot-tall dragons). Afterward, take a well-deserved break together in the inviting lounge area. Daily passes are available, but if your little players are hooked, you may want to spring for a membership.

Far from your ordinary play space, Twinkle offers its visitors 4,500 square feet to run, jump, and embark upon some seriously imaginative play. Nine distinct setups include the “Pretty in Pink” beauty salon, “Brooklyn General Store” (it’s styled after a 1950s market), and “Gently Down the Stream” water play area. We love the flexibility of Twinkle’s hours, and its comfy lounge area for parents to feed their kids lunch, check email (Wi-Fi is free), and chat with other adults, all the while keeping a close eye on their little revelers.

Cookie-cutter play spaces have no business in Williamsburg, as the neighborhood is dotted with custom-designed spots like Frolic!Klub4Kidz, and, now, Twinkle. This former warehouse is more children’s museum than kiddie gym, with interactive exhibits for the 6-and-under set that challenge developing motor skills. Thrill-seekers can put out pretend fires with real water at the Red Hot Fire House station, while the dress-up salon (equipped with styling chairs and primping mirrors) caters to more subdued play. On weekdays, locals drop by for less crowded sessions with their toddlers ($25 for the first visit; $135 for a six-visit pass), while the high-energy older crowd takes over on weekends.

Twinkle Playspace is now open in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. A magical playspace filled with imagination where kids 6 and under can play in the Twinkle world such as the Stardust Tree Fort, the General Store and one my son would adore, Graffiti Studio.
